
LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS
Hosted by the Department of Sabah Museum, the 5th Symposium of the ICTM Study Group on Performing Arts of Southeast Asia (PASEA) will be held at the Sabah Museum complex in Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah (formerly North Borneo), the east Malaysian state on northern Borneo Island. Participants will be able to enjoy the lush surroundings of the Museum’s Ethnobotanical Gardens, and explore the Living Heritage Village of different traditional houses from over 28 of Sabah’s 50 main ethnic groups among the gardens, as well as view informative exhibitions on the cultural, historical, archaeological, natural science, and technological heritage of Sabah in the main Exhibition buildings. The Museum is also renowned for its internationally recognised herbarium of local plants.
The Symposium will coincide with “Museum Day” when members from many of Sabah’s ethnic groups will perform their music and make crafts inside the various houses of the Living Heritage Village. The International Folklore Festival, organised by the Sabah Cultural Board, is planned to take place in Kota Kinabalu during the time of the Symposium (details with be available later)
